Abstract
The artistic–literary motif of the “Day of Judgment” underwent a long creative evolution. The Apocalypse commentaries are essential sources, and for that reason I have reviewed the first commentary known to be conserved in our days. Victorinus fixed the basic elements of the Final Judgment (Judge, Court, Punishment by Fire), but he did not explain the development of the Judgment, due the difficulty involved in harmonizing doctrine and biblical text in that first phase of Christian Patristics.
