Abstract
This study is a contribution to the Theory of Art and aims to provide clarification of the concept of creativity. A comparative chronological and geographical analysis allows us to see the different values which have been attributed to what is original and new in art. The argument of post-modern artists who criticize the notion of "originality" can be substantiated if we consider the situation in other non-Western cultures, where aspects other than those of creativity and novelty are given priority.
