Abstract

The main objective of the present paper is to check whether there are significant differences among students with high, medium and low performance in Maths and English as regards their commitment in homework and several motivational variables. The sample consists of 326 students of 4th, 5th and 6th year of primary education. The results indicate that students with high performance are more intrinsically motivated, more interested in doing homework and less extrinsically motivated to complete their assignments. On the other hand, students with high levels of performance normally show greater involvement in homework, especially as regards to the amount of homework and the time spent to complete it. However, in the case of Maths, the time spent by students with high performance is slightly lower than the group of students with average and low performance.
