Abstract

We evaluate in this study the organological possibilities and musical performance of the most complete gravettien aerophone recovered at the site of Isturitz, from two replicas of the original made in ulnas of griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus). These replicas, obtained with a «chaîne opératoire» of very simple actions allow us to account for their acoustic performance in three ways to produce sound. The use-wear generated in the used stone tools and manufacturing traces on the bones are also analyzed.
