Resumo
The concept of utility was born as an attempt to integrate the two ways that we can take in order to approximate to reality: value of use and value of change, inside and outside, subjective and objective, quality and quantity, mind and body. Throughout the 18th and 19th Centuries, economists paid close attention to the advances in natural sciences; but during great part of the last century a separation took place. Now we attended to a new encounter with cognitive sciences and the most recent issues of physics. This paper is a reading, made from present science, about how some theoretical currents have considered the problem of articulating our mental models with our personal perceptions of well-being. This type of approach seems essential for the construction of realistic models of economic behaviour.
