Resumo
The article presents an overview of manufacturing industries in OECD countries during the last decades of the 20th century, analysing the evolution of Total Production, Value-Added, Real Income, Exports, Imports, and Industrial Consumption by inhabitant, at constant prices, in several sectors. It includes a comparative analysis of Spain, Germany, the USA and Japan, and presents some econometric models to relate industrial consumption and industrial production. It is outstanding from the analysis here performed that the USA have shown during the last years of the last century a trend to increase industrial consumption by inhabitant more than industrial production, with important consequences for foreign trade balance. This article is related with another study in English published by the author in Applied Econometrics and International Development Vol.3-2.
