Abstract
This article takes stock of the language legislation passed in Galicia in 2019, the last year of a term of government that ended abruptly with the calling of elections for 5 April 2020. This term was characterised by low regulatory and budgetary support for the Galician language (only 0.07% of the total budget was allotted to it), while the government made feeble attempts to prop up a return to normalisation, with messages of calm voiced in response to linguistic indicators, external evaluations and actions undertaken by the government that failed to improve the delicate situation brought on by lack of intergenerational transmission of the Galician language. Not a single significant language law was passed during this period. Even the frequently announced and postponed Galician Language Revitalisation Plan for Youth 2019-2022, a preliminary draft of which was available, was not approved following its presentation before the Galician Parliament in July 2019
