Abstract

Aging and its consequence, depopulation are widespread in rural areas. This is one of the most important socio-economic problems of some Spanish regions such as Asturias or Galicia. The analysis of the true dimension of the problem is complicated due to the territorial configuration of two regions. In this paper we analyze the depopulation in rural areas of both regions and we find the seriousness of the problem. A rapid public intervention is necessary aimed at promoting the anchoring of the population, which varies considerably depending on the specific geographical area. This action would achieve the economic resilience capable of ensuring the continuity of these areas, and preserve their culture and heritage
