Zusammenfassung

We present an analysis of economic development of Philippines in comparison with China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and other South and East Asia countries, for the period 1950-2007, having into account the main production factors which explain real GDP per capita and the levels of wellbeing indicators such as health and education expenditure per capita and poverty percentage of population. We analyze the effects of human capital, industry, and other factors, and the main challenges for the next years. We point to the convenience of policies addressed to favor international cooperation with Philippines, in order to improve economic development and to eradicate extreme poverty.
