Abstract

The first problem to pose in a study of cities is its definition and delimitation against the rural one. This is one of the first concepts to be included in the basic curriculum of Compulsory Secondary Education and Baccalaureate within the framework of the Organic Law for the Improvement of Educational Quality (LOMCE). In addition, the curriculum also refers to the study of urbanisation processes, analysis of morphology and urban structure, the uses of urban land, town and country planning and urban landscape features. However, the study of cities in the twenty‐first century requires consideration of the technological revolution in which we are immersed and the need to design sustainable urbanism which is environmentally respectful. Based on these premises, a review of the Geography subject is proposed for the content taught in the second year of sixth form. This is done through the use of four manuals that cover the latest three educational laws. The analysis will allow for the conclusion that an in‐depth review of the curriculum is necessary, both in its content and in the activities proposed, which are not seen as adequate for the new teaching‐learning requirements in all educational fields.
