Abstract
Between the 13th and the 15th centuries no rule of writing in Galician reached Galician range. The independence of Portugal in 1139 created conditions that produced different sociolinguistic contexts in Galicia and Portugal since the time when writing in romance language appeared in these kingdoms. Between the 16th and the 17th centuries writing in Galician was something exceptional and done without rules. Since this paper has an implied Galician-Castilian contrastive intention, it only offers an exposition of Galician writing during the time when Castilian was cultivated without the assistance of the Real Academia Española, that was founded in 1713.
