Resumo

The aim of this study was to assess the influence of exposure to family violence on different antisocial behaviours (aggressive behaviours, rule breaking behaviours, theft, and vandalism), as well as the indirect effect exerted through parent-youth conflict, monitoring, and family support. The sample was composed of 360 youths aged 11 to 21 (M = 16013; SD = 1.98), coming from different juvenile centres in the autonomous community of Galicia (Spain). The direct and indirect effects analyses were carried out through the estimation of 4 simple mediation models. Results show that exposure to family violence directly and significantly influence the adolescent’s aggressive behaviours. Furthermore, exposure to family violence significantly influences aggressive behaviours, rule breaking behaviours, and vandalism in an indirect way, through parent-youth conflict, monitoring, and family support. Likewise, exposure to family violence also affects indirectly theft behaviours, although only through conflict and family support. These results have practical implications in the field of delinquency prevention and intervention
