Abstract

The urban world has always been an inspiring theme for many artistic disciplines such as cinema, literature or painting, that have commited the city's ability to arouse emotions, feelings and sensations. Thus imaginary, superimposed and alternative cities have been built throughout history till creating a symbolic imagery of cities that do not even exist. Bearing in mind those considerations, this paper will try to show how the city was portrayed throughout the whole history of art, focusing on the interest of the urban iconography in studying the relationships between art and variability of perceptions, considering a doctoral thesis about the city of Pontevedra, in Galicia, as starting point
