Abstract

The educational reform envisioned by the LOGSE serves as a background for carrying out an analysis of the institutional reforms taking place in the teacher training centers. In this sense, the reform begun in Spain has been identified by a tendency toward universalization and professionalization. The model of the teacher proposed in the reform is that of a reflexive, active and critical professional, capable of designing, developing and evaluating a comprehensive and diversified curriculum. Therefore, the new study plans for Primary and Preschool education will have to be elaborated in a way that responds to these new demands. The article provides a tour of the evolution experienced in teacher training from the creation of the Normal Schools in Spain up to the present, focusing on the key elements of the current reform and its direct implications for teaching methods
