Abstract

Abstract Using the Conceptual Model of the Social Study of the Aging Processes, the research aims at analyzing the perceptions of young people of Solidarity and Intergenerational Ambivalence about the relationship between Family and ADLs and IADlLs, demonstrating the influence of intergenerational cohesion in Informal Care. The methodology is a mixed approach, quantitative and qualitative, through a self-elaborated survey and Focus Group, applied to students of the High School education in the municipality of Setúbal, Portugal. The results present a higher perception in female gender and in the young people aged 16 years. The highest perception is recorded in the degree of autonomy of the grandparents being the lowest in the availability to care for the elderly. Structural Solidarity is the dimension that presents higher values of perception in the content analysis of narratives. The study allows to conclude that Intergenerational Solidarity and Ambivalence influence the perception of young people in terms of Informal Care.
