Resumo
Objective: in recent years several studies have shown that cigarette consumption is related to other psychiatric disorders. Material and methods: this article assess the evidence that several disorders, such as depression, anxiety, alcohol and schizophrenia are associated with a high rate of cigarette smoking. Results: the smokers who have these disorders experience more withdrawal symptoms on quitting, are less likely to be successful at quitting, and are more likely to relapse. We also explores several potential links between began to smoke and psychiatric disorders. Conclusions: the implications of this relationship between smoking and some psychiatric disorders for clinical practice is analyzed.
