Resumo

This work aims to approach one of the most controversial subjects related to the Spanish Civil War and postwar still today: the study of the repression carried out by Francos regime and of the human casualties produced by such violence in one of the most castigated areas of the country, namely the province of Badajoz, between 1936 and 1950. This investigation explores the different repressive modalities that were employed: paseos (or walks) and military executions. The dissertation also considers other issues such as the number of deaths in prison, the disappearances or the deaths connected to the armed opposition movement against Francoism in the 1940s. To provide a general outlook about these forms of violence other realities are also considered, if only tangentially, in a quantitative manner: the repression against republicans coming from other Spanish regions in the province that is the object of analysis and the deportations and detention of hundreds of citizens from Badajoz in Nazi concentration camps.
