Abstract

An alternative, rapid and one-step method for the fabrication of phase diffractive gratings consisting of the sequential ablation of metallic samples to change the features of a glass substrate is proposed. The experimental set-up is simple and the process presents a high repeatability, making it possible to obtain elements with different features by readjusting the laser parameters. According to this method diffraction gratings are written on a sodo-calcic glass substrate making ablation on a brass target with a Nd:YVO4 laser. The gratings are characterized in terms of their physical properties by confocal microscopy. The first-order diffraction efficiency at normal incidence under 632.8 nm wavelength is measured.
