Abstract
The “old parchment” at the center of this study forms the binding of a modern archival book from the Cistercian abbey of Santa María de Oia (Pontevedra), now held by the Archivo Histórico Nacional. Once part of a mid-twelfth-century lectionary for the Office, this fragment of a manuscript presents texts in a round Visigothic minuscule (mainly) as well as an well-developed Caroline minuscule. This example confirms the long survival of Visigothic script in northwest Iberia, but it also reveals versatile scribes and readers, capable of writing and reading both scripts at the same time
