Resumo

Overweight and obesity is currently considered one of the most important health problems of children at school age, appearance that derives many times in various physical, psychological and social problems. Social changes, result of a modernization accelerated and unstoppable, have led to changes in the habits of people, making them more sedentary, resorting to a precarious power and focusing on education, in many cases, for competitive purposes and production. The objective of this research was to study the perceptions of students of primary education on psychosocial arising from obesity behaviors. A quantitative and descriptive research involving a total of 310 students (174 boys and 136 girls) 5 th and 6 th course of 6 primary schools in the northern part of the city of Santiago de Compostela, using the questionnaire as a tool is designed main for the collection of data. The results show that there is rejection of many suffering problems of overweight and obesity, taunts and other negative behaviors that may lead to serious cases of bullying in many cases. The regular practice of physical exercise, a balanced diet and a values education can and must contribute decisively to mitigate the high rates of childhood obesity and, somehow, to mitigate problems arising from it.
