Resumo

The Relative Age Effect (RAE) refers to the variability in cognitive and biological potential, which appears between individuals grouped by their chronological age and causing inequalities in performance. The purpose of this study was to assess whether the distribution of births in the year, affecting school performance, self-esteem, bullying "bullying", being diagnosed with ADHD and consumption of tobacco in the transition from primary to high school, variables examined with specific tools. This The sample of 1547 students from 6th education primary and 1º high school corresponding to 26 schools in Galicia, aged between 11 and 15 years (mean=11.93, SD=.87). The 775 men and 772 women were divided into four quartiles of birth: a) First quartile (January-March); b) Second quartile (April-June); c) Third quartile (July to September) and d) Fourth quartile (October-December). The results show significant differences in the probability of consuming tobacco and being diagnosed with ADHD.
