Abstract
Prevalence of visual impairment is higher among older people living in nursing homes. This fact and the lack of routine optometric exams in this population group create a social need related to the visual state of the residents. To cope with this social need, a Service Learning activity is created. A socio-sanitary service is offered to improve functional vision of the residents and, consequently, to increase their quality of live. As a result, the initial social need is solved with high satisfaction of teachers, students and institutions involved in the project.
