Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate the invasive and noninvasive tear break-up time of the preocular tear film (POTF) and pre-lens tear film (PLTF) after insertion of a daily disposable contact lenses (CL). Methods: Twenty young subjects free from dry eye were enrolled in the study. NIBUT and FBUT were first measured without CL (NIBUT sinCL and FBUT sinCL, respectively). Then, after 10 hours of insertion of Focus® DAILIES® with AquaComfortᵀᴹ those measurements were repeated (NIBUT CL and FBUT CL). Results: CL slightly affects the tear film stability, since there were no differences between NIBUT sinCL and NIBUT CL. However, the differences between FBUT sinCL and FBUT CL reached statistically significance, although FBUT CL mean value was within acceptable margins. Conclusion: Focus® DAILIES® with AquaComfortᵀᴹ poorly affects the tear break-up time, however more studies are necessary in order to confirm theses results.
