Resumo

This paper contributes to the analysis of the economic factors that have played a major role in the explanation of the relationship between GDP and emissions (CO2 and sulphur) in non-western countries. For this purpose, first, an analysis of the GDP -emissions curve is carried out for the period 1950-1999 and, second, a decomposition technique is applied to the emissions growth rates in selected Asian and Latin American countries for 1973-1999
