Abstract

The article attemps at offering an update and systematization, as rigorous as possible, about the most relevant evidence concerning the Asturian Prelatin toponymical layers. The etymological review of this material is also intended to contribute to the clarification of one of the most controversial questions arisen among the Paleohispanistic and Indo-European research of the last years: the possibility of dissociate or ‘stratificate’ the Asturian –and by extension, Hispanic– Prelatin etymological material in successive linguistic stages: Celtic, Preceltic and Pre-Indo-European.
