Abstract
Today's transitional stage from the Industrial Society based on an analogical infrastructure to the Information Society based on a digital infrastructure, is creating important changes in the communication hypersector, but also raising several questions. The emergence of a technology of substitution awakes many hopes, some of them clearly groundless, and a new opportunity to redefine strategies. This paper argues that for traditional newspapers, it is a time to rethink the future and try to define their space in the Information Society. If traditional newspapers want to survive, they must innovate and be ahead of their time, adding new functions to the quality of their journalistic work. Only the newspapers that will be able to meet such challenge will reach the year 2100.
