Abstract

Between 1925 and 1930, a half of the total amount of Spanish immigrants in Argentina were Galician. Most of these found their place at the commercial and service sector within the urban world of La Plata. Galician communities became strongly associated and gave birth to the powerful "Galician Centre of Buenos Aires", which was born in 1879 and became highly relevant after 1920. Besides a number of fertile and diverse immigrant societies, the Galician citizens of Buenos Aires initiated several organs of expression -almost forty journals during the twenties-, started a wide range of activities related to Galician cultural forms, such as music and theatre, and even created the "America Library".
