Resumo

The objective ofthe present experiment was to evalúate the effect of nitrogen and potassium on pasture production and legumes evolution over a four year period. Nine treatments were stablishcd in a split-plot design. Treatments were randomized with three levéis of nitrogen and each nitrogen rate was applied at three difierent potassium levéis. An important fertilization effect on pasture production was found. Nitrogen had the most important effect in the fírst and second years and potassium was the most important in the third and fourth years. Potassium effect depended on nitrogen level, being more efficient on médium nitrogen rates. Trifolium played an important role on nitrogen-potassium-production relationship as it introduced atmosferic nitrogen in the prairies which had received the best fertilization rates for its developmcnt, that is to say higher potassium rates and lower nitrogen rates.
