Abstract
The existence of different denominations for the same medication (therapeutic jungle) complicates its recognition and can confuse the dentist while selecting a drug, thereby leading to possible prescription errors. Material and method: A selection of the main medication classifications has been carried out. The similarities and differences among the main common drug denominations have been gathered. The various pharmaceutical denominations, used from the beginning of their elaboration until their commercialisation, have been described. Conclusions: Dentists are advised to know and use the common international pharmaceutical denominations instead of other denominations, as well as to avoid the usage of symbols and confusing abbreviations in their prescriptions, with the purpose of increasing the safety in their pharmacological prescriptions.
