Abstract

The loss of a tooth results in loss of alveolar bone, required for the placement and retention of implants. Advances in bone reconstructive techniques, including the potential of barrier membrane for osteogenesis, have increased the indications for implant placement. Experimental and clinical findings have shown that the type of adjunctive grafting material used, healing time, type and size of bone defect, and membrane exposure, all influence the end result. The purpose of this paper is to present three clinical cases of retained canines, extraction and guided bone regeneration in combinations with bone grafts prior to the placement of dental implants.
