Resumo

El estudio de la felicidad ha planteado la necesidad de considerar, además de la renta, otros factores explicativos de la satisfacción de los individuos que deberían ser tenidos en cuenta si los objetivos son la maximización del bienestar social y la mejora de la calidad de vida. El objeto de nuestro trabajo es doble. En primer lugar, estudiamos la relación entre la felicidad y otros conceptos vinculados, como la utilidad y la calidad de vida. Ello nos permite comparar tres criterios que han sido propuestos como guía para las actuaciones públicas �maximizar la utilidad, maximizar la felicidad y mejorar la calidad de vida� y determinar el papel de la renta y de otros factores en cada uno de ellos. En segundo lugar, llevamos a cabo un estudio empírico de la relación del bienestar subjetivo con la renta per capita y el capital social. Para ello, se realiza un análisis descriptivo de los datos y se estima un modelo econométrico con datos agregados de un conjunto de países europeos.
