Abstract
When Diego Gelmirez was elected bishop of Santiago in year 1100, he already had a solid experience serving in public offices. The present article studies this preparation phase, specifically in its political aspects. Its aim is to better understand the first Compostelan bishop�s position with respect to prior immediate history and observe the inception phase of future developments regarding three different issues: lordship, kingdom and Christendom.
