Abstract

We have studied 251 patients that had 394 permanent retained teeth with the objective of make an epidemiological study, paying to special attention by the reasons for examination. We analyze the possible relationship among the reasons for examination, the sex, the age, the location, the type of tooth and the state of bony inclusion. The results indicate that the dental retention more frequent constitutes it the third molar with mandibular location in patients of female sex. The pericoronaritis represents the clinical manifestation more usual of the retained teeth and the partially erupted teeth shows the greatest symptoms frequency. We expose the prophylactic surgical removal.
