Abstract
The various studies about verbal valency have shown that the dichotomy nuclear function / marginal function is insufficient and inoperative. The lexical viewpoint of the many researches developed in the frame of Valency Grammar studies leads us to a gradual focus in which it becomes necessary to overcome the dual opposition above mentioned. In this article we try to offer a gradual viewpoint, represented fundamentally by Dik and Somers, and our own three membered non gradual focus which attemps to outdo the former’s theoretical and methodological deficiencies.
