Abstract

Technological factor and patterns of technological specialization appear to be essen-tial in the determination of trade performance and the competitiveness of countries, both from a neo-classical or "evolutionary" point of view. Given their importance, the objective of this work is to study the patterns of technological specialization and their dynamic from 1980 to 1994. The methodology used allows us to point out if a process of convergence (divergence) in the techno-logical patterns of developed countries has taken place, making them more similar. A gro-wing de-specialization (specialización) inside the countries can accompany this process. Two kinds of processes might not move in the same direction in all cases, and they are probably going to take place at different speeds. The homogenization of the technological patterns is conditioned and limited by the characteristics of the process of technological change
