Resumo
The scale of dogmatism (Rokeach, 1960) is one of the most widely used measures for discovering the cognitive style of the subjects. This study, carried out with a total of 763 subjects seems to indicate that scale D is multidimensional, which implies that overall scores obtained on the scale will have little value. As a complement to this result, the existence of significant differences is shown between ideoligical groups of right versus left and voters versus non-voters, in differential factors of the scale. These differences, which are important if we are to understand the belief systems underlying the different groups, were not revealed by overall scores on the scale.
