Zusammenfassung
The results of a study of the relationship between several psychosocial variables and the verdicts of individuals in artificial cases of four kinds (rape, currency, smuggling, parricide and theft) to some extent confirm those of Feild (1978), Hepburn (1980), Penrod (1980) and Hastie et al. (1983), in that the psychosocial profiles of jurors proved to have little explicative power overall. The existence of linear discriminant functions that correctly predict approximately 60% of the verdicts nevertheless suggests the possibility that the psychosocial profiles of jurors may influence the outcome of cases in which evidence is scant or in which evidence in favour of the accused is balanced by that against them.
