Abstract

This study analyses the influence of different variables related to social identity and political assessment connected with the intention to participate in protest actions against the agricultural policy of the European Union. From among the different means of identification which were used, active group identification (expressed as belonging to farmers' organizations) was the variable which had the greatest predictive abilities. Together with this, there was a significant contribution by the group's structural conditions, as well as pessimism about the future and the permeability of group boundaries, and criticism of the government for not defending the farmers' interests.
