Abstract
The new assessment criteria put in place for university positions needs to be examined, not only to determine its difficulty, but to explore its influence in building a certain type of university, research and teaching staff. Those criteria mean a lot more than a necessary requirement to participate in university selection processes. They are a tool that has the potential to determine the type of research done in universities and the profile of its staff. It might as well induce descouragement in the academic progression.
