Resumo

This chapter discusses the possible links between the south-western region of Galicia and the poets who are part, along with Martim Codax, of the Cancioneiro de jograis galegos (’Galician jongleurs song book’), more specifically those grouped under the label cantigas de santuário or sanctuary songs. After our analysis, we are in a position to establish links, with variable degrees of certainty, between this area and eleven authors, including five jongleurs whose geographical background was considered doubtful – Fernão do Lago, Galisteu Fernandes, Lopo, Martim de Ginzo e Martim Padrozelos. On the other hand, we emphasize some possible intertextual connections and point at the name of Paio Gomes Charinho, a courtier in the milieu of Sancho IV’s court, as a possible instigator of jongleur activity in general and of a collection of cantigas de santuário in particular.
