Abstract

The strong economic crises that the corporate sector has experienced in recent years and the decision to ignore the information´s demands of the stakeholders have caused an expectations gap and a lack of trust on the corporate´s practices and, especially, on their managers. Thus, a number of studies have been developed to analyze the increasing need for a greater corporate transparency and the voluntary corporate disclosure, including their advantages and disadvantages. In this context, our paper aims to give a preliminary vision on these themes, focusing on both the media impact and the public´s perception of the corporate image, through the agenda setting analysis and the agenda building design. The analysis has been conducted within the recent global crisis framework and, particularly, based on the national and international media processing of the current events that have unleashed the economic crisis, focusing on a certain period (the last quarter of 2008).
