Abstract
In the Asturian Coast the polderization of estuarine soils to turn them into pastures, cultures or urban zones is a frecuent practice. In the estuary of Villaviciosa a study was carried out in order to determine how this polderization influences on the carbon stock of these soils. The morphodinamic units were sampled and the content of organic matter, total carbon, organic carbon, oxidable carbon and carbonates was estimated. The limitation of the floods frecuency caused by dams has produced the ripening of incipient salt marsh soils. This process causes the increasing of soil organic carbon.
