Abstract

The family model concept has experienced substantial changes in the last century and it is necessary to highlight the relationship breakups where children are involved. The aim of the present Doctoral Dissertation is to analyze the consequences of parental divorce on the physical health, the psychological, and social adjustment, and the academic performance of children, as well as the impact of the socioeconomic status of the family. The results show that parental divorce can be a risk factor for children’s wellbeing. Bering this in mind, it is important to highlight the role of professionals in detecting, acting and guiding families to reduce the possible negative impact of parental separation.
