Abstract
The first aim of this doctoral thesis is to discuss a series of methodological procedures oriented to the interpretation of the material remains of past societies. These procedures are based on the application of Geopatial technology in archeology, and more specifically on the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as tools for archaeological analysis of visibility and mobility in the landscape. Such use is already relatively settled as a result of an experience of more than two decades. However, their procedures have been discussed in relation to the different approaches and paradigm shifts that have occurred in the discipline. The second aim of this work is to develop a theoretical-methodological proposal that frames the use of these technologies oriented to the interpretation of the archaeological landscape. This proposal is discussed and exemplified from a series of case studies.
