Abstract

When the calculation of slurry walls is marked by a marked three-dimensional bias (as the one that causes the corner in most of the enclosures that are of square or rectangular geometry), the realization of 3D numerical models is the way to solve the problem with more realism. The lack of reliable soil data and the need to minimize the calculation time, makes that in current professional practice, the slurry walls are dimensioned with tension-deformation methods that are solved by Winkler-type methods. These methods optimize the oversized efforts obtained from the classical methods of limit equilibrium, allowing to quantify the degree of mobilization of the state of plasticization of the soils. The objective is to quantify the repercussion in the strength of the anchors and in the bending moments that the resolution of the problem has in three dimensions. In this work we propose the reduction of bending moments produced by the effect of the corner, based on a new variable called relative stiffness of the 3D system, for any type of soil, enclosure lengths and diaphram wall thickness.
