Abstract

In this thesis we review some results on the generalization of the gauge/gravity duality to new cases by using T-duality and by including fundamental matter, finding applications to condensed matter physics. First, we construct new supersymmetric solutions to type IIA/B and eleven dimensional supergravity using non-abelian T-duality. Second, we construct a type IIA supergravity solution with D6-sources, dual to an unquenched massive flavored version of the ABJM theory. Third, we study a probe D6-brane with worldvolume gauge fields in the ABJM background, obtaining the dual description of a quantum Hall system. Finally, we consider a system of a probe D6-brane in the ABJM background and study quantum phase transitions of its dual theory.
