Industrial design and manufacture of cots intended for import and export is hampered by a multitude of national laws and a worldwide health and safety Regulations, whose main objective is to define the requirements and specifications these type of products have to comply with in order to be marketed in each country. It is clear that this multiplicity of laws, regulations and standards makes it extremely difficult to place on the global market a single model of cot, capable to comply with all of them simultaneously without any modification. After having carried out an exhaustive study of all the applicable laws and regulations, this paper presents a universal technical standard for the design and manufacture of cots for domestic use. Its application will ensure the compliance with all the health and safety requirements and specifications of the countries and geographical areas with the most stringent provisions regarding to this subjet (EU, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, Brazil, Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan). This Standard: - Provides designers and producers of cots for domestic use with a single manufacturing guide. - Provides specialized testing laboratories with a single and standardized analysis procedure.
