Abstract
This inductive study belongs to the field of digital ethnography and makes use of virtual participant observation to focus on the interaction developed over a year by the users of Zamboanga de Antes. This Facebook group has more than 15,000 members nowadays, and aims at revitalizing Zamboangueño Chabacano, one of the three varieties of Philippine Creole Spanish. The first part of the study offers a variable analysis with the purpose of finding out which are the main factors that can favor participation in the threads and therefore the practice of this language online. Next, social network analysis is used to present the interaction topology, identify the most central members and discover possible subgroups. In addition, the study is completed with a content and ideological analysis of the contemporary and spontaneous texts found in posts and comments. In short, we aim at describing the way metalinguistic and sociolinguistic awareness is stimulated in order to promote linguistic revitalization and identity strengthening on an online social network.
