Abstract

The thesis defines and illustrates different terms related to the concept of anglicism, makes a historic review of the phenomenon and explores its influence on the Spanish language, the reasons for its use and the attitudes towards it, commenting on previous classifications and establishing its own. With the help of a large corpus from television programmes, and a questionnaire, it tries to check the fulfilment of different affirmations and analyses deeply the reality of the lexical influence of borrowings from English.
