Doctor by the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela with the thesis Procesos de transferencia protónica fotoinducida en 2-piridilbencimidazoles 1992. Supervised by Dr. Flor Rodríguez Prieto, Dr. Manuel Mosquera González.

I have a degree and doctorate in Chemical Sciences from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). After several postdoctoral stays in Belgium and Germany, in 1996 I permanently joined the area of Physical Chemistry at the Lugo Campus of the USC, combining research work in the field of fluorescence spectroscopy and its applications with extensive teaching work in various degrees of bachelor, master and doctorate levels. I have also supervised and currently supervise several doctoral theses, master's thesis and degree final theses. Since March 2023, I am Full Professor in the area of Physical Chemistry. I am currently coordinator of the Biophysical Chemistry, Photophysics and Spectroscopy research group, in which I have carried out most of my research work. My research focuses on the structural and dynamic study of supramolecular systems through the use of fluorescence techniques, as well as the application of fluorescent probes for the detection and quantification of biomolecules. Additionally, since 2013, I have been coordinator of the XuvenCiencia Science and Technology Dissemination Group. XuvenCiencia is a multidisciplinary teaching innovation group of USC professors of the Campus of Lugo that offers various activities of training in research practice and promotion of scientific vocations and organizes one of the largest and most successful scientific campuses for young people in Spain. Within the framework of these dissemination activities, several competitive national and European projects have been achieved.
